Handling Safety

  • Always use appropriate lifting equipment (forklift, pallet jack)
  • Never lift an IBC by the valve or cap
  • Check weight before lifting - do not exceed equipment capacity
  • Ensure the pallet/base is intact before moving
  • Keep pathways clear when transporting

Storage Safety

  • Store on level, stable surfaces
  • Keep away from heat sources and direct sunlight
  • Maintain proper ventilation in storage areas
  • Follow stacking limits (usually 2 high when full)
  • Use secondary containment for hazardous materials
  • Keep incompatible materials separated

Pre-Use Inspection Checklist

Cage/Frame

No bends, breaks, or excessive rust

Inner Container

No cracks, bulges, or discoloration

Pallet/Base

No broken boards or excessive wear

Valve Assembly

Proper seal, no leaks, functions correctly

Cap/Lid

Gasket intact, threads not damaged

Labels

Legible and appropriate for contents

Never Do These

  • • Never enter or stand on top of an IBC
  • • Never use a damaged container for hazardous materials
  • • Never mix incompatible chemicals
  • • Never exceed the rated capacity
  • • Never ignore leaks or damage - address immediately
